1·1 month agoIt’s not the devs but their clients that need to change. Plus many of the arguments against WordPress can also be made about Windows. Neither platform is going away any time soon.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Backlash Is So Strong That People With “Pervert Glasses” Are Afraid to Use Them in PublicEnglish
6·3 months agoNot for the first time. Metaverse failed for all the same reasons that Second Life did: it’s a solution to a problem that most people don’t have. Except Second Life - which still exists and supposedly is far more active than during its heyday - only cost the merest fraction compared to the Metaverse.
As for the Spybans, there were a couple of short films released around 2010 that predicted the privacy issues linking AR with realtime social networking would bring. So it’s not a new idea. Unfortunately, both films were taken down soon after because they were deemed too disturbing.
And yet, here we are.

11·6 months agoAll the nice bells and whistles that mint comes with: mostly cinnamon and the upgrade manager out-of-the-box. I’ve been using it for a few months, and I prefer it over stock debian and normal mint.

2·6 months agoSame. I’ve probably got more than ten thousand hours across multiple versions. When I was sick I used to play it all day, every day. I found mining very Zen.

Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube adds new hurdles for ad blockers, and there's currently no way around itEnglish
184·8 months agoI had it for more than 5 years before abandoning it. I still got ads. I’d complain and YouTube would tell me it was a rare bug, or my browser, or the phase of the moon. They’d promise it’d never happen again and it still kept happening. I suspect it was a test to see what they could get away with.
