I enjoy long walks through nuance and strong opinions politely debated. I like people who argue to understand, not just to win. Bring your curiosity and I’ll bring mine.

Games@lemmy.world•What was the first game you ever bought ?English
4·2 months agoThat I bought myself? Dragon Warrior. I bought it from a teenager who lived nearby for 5$ (a couple hundred when adjusting for inflation). He even threw in a cut out of a Nintendo power article on how to beat it.
Was it worth it? Absofuckinglutely!

13·2 months agoI get what you’re saying, it is a different vibe. I just think Abiotic Factor is so well done that it kind of goes beyond a straight comparison. It’s like comparing instant ramen to a really well-made bowl from a restaurant. Same idea, but the experience is on a completely different level.

Games@lemmy.world•Our first look at the Steam Machine, Valve’s ambitious new game consoleEnglish
41·6 months agoAbsolutely! The opinions you see on platforms like Lemmy or Reddit don’t necessarily reflect the views of the actual target market. Many of those users are casual gamers. These are people who own a phone and an Xbox, and that’s the extent of their gaming experience.
That market is HUGE. Valve is offering accessibility, convenience, and comparable (to consoles) performance without the complexity of PC gaming. I think it’s a fantastic move, and I’m genuinely excited to see it succeed. I have long wanted to play with more of my work friends who fall into this category.

Games@lemmy.world•Linux gamers on Steam finally cross over the 3% markEnglish
26·7 months agoI spent the last two days building a machine from old parts and installing Linux Mint. It’s my first time using Linux and I am really surprised at how lovely it is. I am still learning, but I can easily see it replacing my home gaming PC. I have yet to find something I can’t get to work.

2·7 months agoSolid list! I am glad someone else recommended Dragon Quest 8 as it’s god tier good.
I like Dark Cloud 2 more than the original myself. It’s completely separate from the original and feels like an improvement on the concepts of the first.

Technology@lemmy.world•CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect InformationEnglish
3·2 years agoHah! I read that the guy who coined it regrets that he named it that. It stands for retrieval augmented generation. Is essentially ctrl-v. For example, instead of just asking it a question about a topic, feed it an entire course’s worth of text and notes on the topic and then ask it a question.

Trump probably thinks he’s above the rules, so of course he’d want to keep the solid gold microphone Xi gave him with the plaque that says “The Greatest Speeches Ever.”
He probably thinks it would look great on his desk.
