Honestly I blindly say a lot of stuff but I don’t like how often I end up being right about it.

I think this is the part where now they have a invested interest in the platform that hosts open source models they are going to start pushing the narrative that they need to be banned or “contained” and there’s going to be regulations to the point only they can host open source models.

So regulatory capture. We are going to start seeing a whole bunch of news about people using dangerous Chinese models to make slop, hack people, make deep fakes/ nudes of everyone, and make the claim that only they should be allowed to do those things. Only chatgpt and grok can hack Americans and make nudes of them without their consent.

They’re always going to blame Chinese models too, its never going to be the story about how these platforms incentivise this stuff in the first place, and how its just someone in a third world in south easy Asia gaming the algorithm using normal commercial LLM’s. They’re not going to talk about how they are the ones constantly breaking the law and fighting everyone tooth and nail to ensure that grok can still produce csam.

I had vr in the semi early days and I know that feeling. There was really something special about just the scale and perspective that brings child like wonder.

I would love for a second wave of vr games to become popular but if that would of happened it would of happened through meta because they have the actual sales numbers to support it somewhat.

I don’t think enough people are going to buy the steam frame and inspire a second big wave of vr devs. Its going to help the older games get a short burst of sales and those devs will just have to make a patch to be playable on the frame.

I think at most the frame will do decent, but more importantly all the work that went Into fex/lepton will get fleshed out more and more to the point you are playing full PC games on your phone.

In my opinion the steam frame is a wash and I want it only as a steam fan boy. I’d still get it if it was going to be cheap but with how thongs are going I just don’t see it being a success. I can’t justify spending 1200+ USD on something to play a unsupported/abandonded 20 dollar game from 8+ years ago. And there’s only maybe 3 games I see as worth while, and aren’t just a tech demo like the walking the plank simulator.

The only thing I can see being a turning point is if there was a way to convert games into vr kind of like that unreal engine mod. And that would have to be universal and easy to use like proton is.

I’m not sure I even really want one. Not much in terms of software once meta started buying all the game companies and shutting them down.

You will be able to run both PC versions of games, and the arm apks similar to what the meta headsets use. It will also do streaming really well.

I have a pirated legacy, and SE version I zipped up with all the mods that work for that version. I’m so tired of Bethesda updating a nearly 20 year old game, so they can resell it again.

Sense I’ve played the game with mods there have been two big instances where Bethesda decided to be greedy and break hundreds of thousands of mods. There used to be so many good mods that just don’t exist anymore and where crazy intense and they’re all lost to time.

The games nearly 20 years old it doesnt need to be updated every year to resell the game. Bethesda hates the mod community anyways they keep trying to figure out a way to weasle their way into free mods and put a paywall between you and their content.

Most people that use mods these days for skyrim don’t even use a script extender. Their idea of mods is the mod menu built into the game which is really only reskins, and stat changes/cheats. We used to have ship houses you could build, and drive. There was so much insane big mods like that, and they just don’t exist anymore.

Eventually Bethesda won’t let you mod their game, and its going to be a built in “mod manager” which is devoid of any useful features. If you haven’t had to use fnis, skse, etc then you are not modding the game.

As if he had 0 responsibility for the release of the csam generator, and took absolutely no precautions on trying to prevent it from happening. No other major LLM company has this issue, and the amount of negligence is on par with leaving a loaded gun at the playground in a park.

What’s even worse is instead of immediately shutting down the csam generator elon instead made it so only paying members can generate csam. When people complained again that people where still actively generating csam he simply removed that function to be available in the united States or the uk. So now when someone generates csam of your kids you won’t even be aware of it.

Now elon musk is fighting at every instance to fight for his right to be able to generate csam. Including suing states.

Trump says this is legal, and he has pressured states to not make any laws against ai in any shape or form, essentially making it illegal to stop elon musk from making csam.

You can just use a different distro and benifit off all the work that went into developing steam by using the open source tools they threw money at or directly helped along.

I can pirate games, buy from gog, use a different distro, run the game through lutris/bottles with proton ge, and never open steam, yet they still kind of help bring the community there.

Sense the steam deck came out there have been so many github projects for linux and gaming just due to the fact people feel like they are apart of the community. Steam tinkers launcher has been amazing and I wish I had that 8 years ago when I barely knew how to make a wineprefix.

And that shits happening all over again and we are going to get a lot of improvements with fex, and waydroid with the soon release of the steam frame. Fex and waydroid will be crutial for someone trying to fork android, or make a Linux based arch64 os. The work is already benifiting lots of people. Sadly gamesir seems to be the only one taking advantage of this and they’re rather shitty of a company.

Say what you will of steam being a monopoly, and still being a evil corperation I’m all for it. But the world is not so black and white and sometimes you gotta side with the bad guys because at this moment it benifits you more. At any time steam can start forcing digital ID to play mature games, or start doing weird shit.

I can’t say the same for companies like nvidia or epic who are now trying to weasle in. Who are completely closed source and don’t have anything that directly helps the community at large. Steam at least gives you the tools to make your own open source steam deck/steam machine competitor because if despite all odds you make a popular consolex most people are still going to end up putting steam on it. That dynamic can change at any moment, but in the now I’m allowed to pick my favorite corperation and willfully ignore a lot of glaring issues, because to me the benifit outways the down sides. If I’m going to get fucked I at least want it to be comfortable, maybe missionary with some mutual kissing. I don’t want someone just raw dogging me doggy style rough, and I don’t think it’s that wrong to have a preference.

It is crazy that a platform essentially ran on child labor also allows predators on said platform and some what protects them by sweeping the problem under the rug and hiding it.

Also the fact that everything’s in robucks kind of reminds me of those old sugar mill/mining towns where they invented their own money to keep people enslaved.

What’s crazier too is I completely forget about roblox, but everytime I hear it in the news it has quadrupled in size. I consider myself into gaming and roblox completely escapes my content feeds, and its pretty much larger then the entire gaming industry combined. Or at least was. So I don’t know how parents can keep up with all this stuff.

I don’t like Sweeny, and don’t trust him. I don’t want him interested in Linux even if people do use his service and think it would be a benifit if it worked on linux.

Sweeny is always trying to get ahead of the curve on things, and will sue and try to cause damage to get his way. He hates monopolies like steam and google because he his envious and thinks he should be the monopoly, and every move he has made has been to selfishly reach that goal.

I don’t know what he has planned but I can see him running some narative similar to his google play legal fight to try to throw around his power and take control, rather than just making a decent product. So to me I see Sweeny interested in Linux finally, I am trying to think what kind of lawsuit is he planning, or is he going to try to instil his own Linux kernal anti cheat spyware, etc, etc.

He only sued google for the 30% cut they took on fortnight, and though he deserved all the money to himself, while at the same time is trying to build his monopoly the epic playstore. Hes beefing with steam right now about Ai disclosure because he doesn’t want the games made with unreal engine to be labled as Ai slop due to his newest Ai update for unreal.

If everytime he opened his mouth he didn’t shit on Linux, shit on anti Ai, shit on open source, and directly support csam I would maybe believe him. Its like everytime he opens his mouth he aims to say the dumbest thing possible.

Yeah that’s amazing thats another translation layer thats vital for Linux phones.

Thats what im getting excited about. If someone makes use of all this progress we could have decent capable smart phones that at the very least have all the attractive software and apps which is the hardest part. And that progress is going to compound.

Sure getting the actual phone elements to work is still hard but we have a few options already and the main issue with those, is that no ones going to adopt it because they can’t use messenger or play candy crush anymore. They’re just boring phones again, and unless you find it fun writting code or playing in the terminal, it gets boring fast. Being able to play skyrim on your phone makes it sound like a fair trade off in some regards. People might be more willing to change their other habits and apps they used if there was at least one solid source of dopamine. I don’t know if you guys noticed but every app is basicially made to hijack your reward center, and switching to a privacy phone is like quiting smoking cold turkey.

Just to use YouTube like a normal person on newpipe I have to change my IP every couple of hours when YouTube bans me. So much of privacy focused experience is becoming that as these big companies push out anyone who isnt signed into a I’D verified account, and stuff like that is painful to do for the average person. I’m filled with spite so I will do everything in my power to make it harder to collect my data, but most people aren’t like that. There’s gotta be SOMETHING that gives privacy phones some hype, or momentum. I worry too much about this stuff even though I’m the least qualified to do so. Just feels like there’s a clock we are racing against and not enough people care.
