I have Ubuntu touch installed on my pixel 3a xl. On the phone i can install waydroid with gapps which will allow you to install googleplay store. You should be able to run those apps, i don’t use googleplay store though so your experiences may vary, just installed it to see if i could… All i can say is give it a go. There are some other phones on the market you could buy and try it out.

On Ubuntu Touch i installed waydroid through the openstore then in terminal i had to use this command to run waydroid with gapps. sudo waydroid init -f -s GAPPS good resource on waydroid https://docs.waydro.id/

It’s good, no annoying UI gotchas, never had a problem with calling/receiving/texts. Waydroid works great using F-Droid/Aurora store.

If it had an unlocked bootloader where i could install ubuntu touch i’d buy it. Otherwise naw.

That’s the thing, with a free operating system you can do whatever the fuck you want. The best games coming out are indie developers and they can target hardware people have. We can wait them out.

I have a linuxbox with decent hardware that i can squeeze 4 years out of still, a steamdeck, and steamframes soon. I’ll be good for quite a while, long enough to ride out the AI-slop bubble.

You see a lot of ai videos of prominent personalities, seriously doubt they have permission to use their identity.

There is the Steamdeck OLED still, Steam Machine and Steamframes on the way early 2026. Also there is enough used machines in the second hand marketplace to tide everyone else over until the AI bubble pops.

Calm down dude, you have to admit there is a big difference between a 152mm x 158mm cube and a pc tower, they can be quite large. Mine is 54cm tall, 58cm long, 9cm wide.

Yeah they said they are pricing the Steam Machine at PC market prices, but they do having to contend with reality. There are consoles on the market that are more powerful at a lower price point, it will dampen their sales for sure. I mean most pcgamers probably have more powerful hardware already, what is the incentive? Sure small form factor, but is it worth a premium price to the average pcgamer? Console peasants will turn their noses up at it, so who are they marketing to?

I can see the Steam Frames selling better due to it being a fully untethered VRPC headset that can play more than just VR games. Not to mention you can stream from a more powerful PC to the frames making the battery last much longer and better gfx fidelity.

The Steam Controller has to contend with a flooded market of users used to using one type of controller, so a little bit of an uphill battle there too.

The cube is not a pc tower, it is a small box that can sit on a shelf.
