I came here to suggest MX Linux w/XFCE. I use the plasma flavor mostly now but I’ve been using MX as my daily driver for like… 2-3 years now.

You’re getting all kinds of recommendations for Steam games. But what about free games? In desktop mode, the “discovery” app let’s you install programs, including games.

There’s tons of free games. I’ll admit a lot of them aren’t the highest quality. They are mostly open source clones of more popular games.

One game I recommend in particular is Super Tux Kart. (Tux is the mascot of Linux, and SteamOS is Linux based.) It’s a kart racer game. It’s one of the highest quality open source clones out there, though. Great graphics too.

If you own Minecraft, the Prism launcher will allow you to run it in the Deck. Just go into the steam menu in desktop mode and click “add non stream game” to add any apps you install this way to your steam menu. Now they can be launched in handheld mode as well!

Speak for yourself. I have ISOs saved for my virtual machine “OS Museum” full of all kinds cool stuff like Damn Small Linux, TempleOS, Haiku, Hannah Montana Linux, the version of Mandrake Linux that came with the Sims 1 installed … Etc.

In this case, it might not involve the surveillance company selling or sharing anything. All an insurance adjuster has to do is knock on doors in the area and ask the home owners if they are willing to share any video footage they have.

How much storage does it have? Google search indicates it may just be 32GB. With a small distro, you just maybe just barely fit text only Wikipedia on there with Kiwix (or whatever the Wikipedia archive reader is called.)

Alternatively, you could put some books from Project Gutenberg on there. Throw in some public domain music recordings, a freely available movie or two (like the ones from the blender project), and maybe some light weight open source games… Then, you could have have yourself a portable offline library which could be shared with no legal repercussions.

I use “Beelink” brand mini PCs for this purpose. (They are the same form factor as your photo.) I have three, and they’re all good. I’ve used multiple distros on them with no compatibility issues, but MX Linux is my daily driver.

They have fans built in, but the cases on the higher end ones are metal, which helps with heat dissipation. The only downside with that is that sometimes USB peripherals get super hot while plugged in, and I had a mouse dongle that would overheat and malfunction. A simple USB hub fixed this problem (the hub itself apparently didn’t mind getting hot).

I use a “Mini Keyboard with touchpad” on the ones connected to TVs. I recommend those as well. Rii brand is decent.

You cannot change a pokemon game’s language in the middle of a playthrough. You choose the language at the very beginning of the game. This is because a breeding pair of Pokemon with different language origins have a higher chance to breed with each other and produce eggs faster - I think the eggs may also have a higher chance to be shiny, but I’m less sure of that. Either way, it’s supposed to motivate you to trade online.

If you wanna change your language, you’re gonna have to wipe your save and start over.

SE USA. A cashier who doesn’t want small talk here is rare. I’ve even had small talk happen at Aldi’s. I didn’t know they were trained to not do that, as the other poster said.

If you know the model of your motherboard, you could look up the user manual. Then you don’t need to open it to see if you have two slots. Also, I don’t know your setup. If you have a slot for a physically bigger hard drive, then it might be a good idea to get a bigger storage drive as your second drive. If you like Linux, then reinstall it to your main drive and keep the second drive as storage drive.
