Games@lemmy.world•Hytale is OUT NOW in early access!English
13·3 months agoYes, but Minecraft was on sale for a year before it ever went into “Beta,” back before it was in Alpha even. In fact, it wasn’t until one of the last Alpha updates that the earliest semblance of “Minecraft” as we know it really began to appear. The Beta updates added a lot of core features we take for granted in the game, like beds for sleeping, tall grass for seeds, redstone repeaters, pistons, sprinting, hunger, etc.

Games@lemmy.world•European lawmakers will study a ban on 'loot boxes' and addictive features in video gamesEnglish
302·3 months agoWatch the end result be you can’t find random chests in Minecraft dungeons or Terraria caves cause it falls under the category of “lootbox” in games…
(May seem hyperbolic, but we are talking about 70 year old boomers trying to make regulations for video games. I’m not sure I have the most positive view of the potential outcome)

49·4 months agoI hope this wasn’t used as an excuse to disqualify the game so they wouldn’t have to give it an award… Cause if it turns out it was, that would look really bad…
Nooo! D:

Android@lemdro.id•Pixel 10 Already Leaked From Its Own Ad Shoot — Because Google Can’t Keep a SecretEnglish
1·11 months agoHuh? That ain’t what I meant at all… I’m sticking with Pixel for my next upgrade, there’s not much that could make me change my mind. If for some reason Pixel died next year, I’d probably switch to OnePlus (if I can find a good ROM for it that’s as good as CalyxOS), but I can’t say I’d be happy about it.

41·11 months agoUhh, yeah no… A phone with a processor that’s equivalent to something from like 4 generations ago isn’t gonna cut it. Even then, that processor would be less powerful than the Tensor G1 in my Pixel 6 Pro. If you’re concerned about data sharing, just get a Pixel and put CalyxOS or GrapheneOS on it. More secure anyways, and you still get much better hardware along with it.

32·11 months agoYeah… My Pixel 6 Pro is the best phone I’ve ever had, and I don’t even intended to upgrade until the Pixel 11 at least. So, you’re just wrong.

Games@lemmy.world•GeoGuessr's Steam Release Hit With Overwhelmingly Negative Reviews For "Completely Pointless" MonetizationEnglish
14·11 months agoHonestly, people are mostly* blaming the victim here. I used to adore playing Geoguessr years ago, but that came to an end when a subscription was needed to play it. That came about because Google started charging exorbitant prices for the Google Maps and Streetview API.
*Yeah, the other issues like lacking features and not using the subscription from the website are dumb, and shouldn’t have been a thing for the Steam release. But the core issue of the subscription? The fault for that lies squarely with Google…

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which communication protocol or open standard in software do you wish was more common or used more?
4·2 years agoThat’s what I mean by a lack of a standard for markdown. There needs to be at least a core standards for stuff (like bolding and italics), that is universal across stuff. Then if a program wants to add onto it, that’s fine. But just the core parts being standardized would help a lot.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which communication protocol or open standard in software do you wish was more common or used more?
12·2 years agoMarkdown really should have more widespread support than it does. It’s just the right mix between plain text and an office document, I took my college notes with it in fact cause of how fast it was to format stuff. But as far as I know, there’s no default program on any of the (major) OS’s or Distros for viewing it.
Maybe it’s just due to a lack of standards for formatting or something, but regardless I do wish it was used and supported more.

8/10 map, ngl. Would play over Summit or Apocalypse any day.

Android@lemdro.id•Android 15 may require edge to edge modeEnglish
111·2 years agoI know some people won’t like this, but overall I think it is a cleaner look and also makes full use of the screen real estate available. Now it’s not like… 100% ideal from a usage standpoint, but I think it’s better than just having black bars are the top and bottom (or sides in landscape mode), as that just sorta defeats the point of an edge to edge display.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's your current favorite distro that isn't Arch, Debian or Fedora?
15·2 years agoOpenSuse Tumbleweed without a doubt!
Unfortunately for those of us that use Cuda features, AMD just really isn’t that viable of an alternative. Anyone who’s had to deal with ROCM can attest to this…

There’s Kitten Space Agency. It’s basically the spiritual successor to KSP, just with Kittens instead (and also perhaps a bit more realism than KSP?)
