The article says that they contain NaCrO₂. That means that, by mass, they are 21% Na, 49% Cr, and 30% O. So I’m curious: why are they called sodium batteries, and not chromium batteries?

Physical media is no more expensive or inconvenient than it ever was. It’s just that you’re now comparing it to downloads, which bear no manufacturing cost and don’t require you to physically go to a store or have the media shipped to you. These are exactly the reasons that consumers prefer downloads.

PSA: If your router has a guest network feature, enable it, and put all of your IOT devices on it. Unlike the main network, guest networks are typically configured such that each device on the guest network can only access the internet, and not other devices on the guest network, nor the router, itself.

I’ve read science fiction books in which humans scavenged the machines’ supplies like rodents scavenging from a kitchen, and now it’s reality.

The comment by ksymph sums up my thoughts exactly:
The principles behind this effort are admirable, but I’m concerned about the practical implementation. Who is funding this? How will one person per domain be verified? Is self-hosting actually required, or can one use an external host; in the case of the former, how would it be verified, and in the case of the latter, what exactly does this tld accomplish that isn’t accomplished by free tlds, tlds like .me, or services like duckdns? Open source software clients as described are a major undertaking; why keep them under the umbrella of this tld?
I respect the goals here, and I want this to succeed, but this is a massive project, and without a clear plan I’m afraid this will peter out even if the tld is granted.

The headline is a lie. Not only did they not cut into the roof of the reactor, but the reactor was also offline when they replaced the steam generators
Bruce Power cut into the roof of an operating nuclear station, hauled eight steam generators weighing 100 metric tons each (about 110 US tons) out through the top, and lowered brand-new ones into the same hole. Then it brought the reactor back online on June 8

Is it a noose made of hemp

“In leadership roles, narcissists have a clear preference for face-to-face interaction, where richer channels allow them to not only gain attention but also wield power and status,” the authors write. Remote settings curtail leaders’ usual means of “directing and inspiring employees” like using hand gestures, fluctuating the volume of their voice, making eye contact, and adjusting their posture. “When communicating by video, phone, email, or text, it is more difficult for leaders to command the attention—and gauge and bask in the admiration—of their employees,” the authors write.

I don’t understand the aversion to datacenters. Just make sure that they use green energy and recycle their cooling water.

Hell yeah California. Suck it, Peacock.
It just occurred to me that with the recent advancements in cargo-container-sized nuclear reactors, they would excellent fit to power aircraft due to their high energy densities. There were attempts at nuclear-powered aircraft in the past using older technology, but IIRC they irradiated crews and were primarily for bombers carrying nukes that would supposedly need to be in the air continuously for days at a time.
