Except that they never grew out of it. Here they are, twenty or thirty or sixty years later, still unable to grasp the simple fact that the world just is what it is and the round peg isn’t going to go in the square hole no matter how much you pound on it, and still angry over it, as if it’s some sort of vast conspiracy rather than just the fact that they’re fucking morons.
That has to be an unpleasant way to live.

Yeah. Most conservatives I know have short tempers and they get extremely carried away when they are in groups. I mean, it doesn’t matter what they are getting mad at, just as long as everyone is getting pissed off at the same time and about someone else or some other ideology. The key point is they believe they are victims of “the system” or “libruls” and not their own bad choices.
It’s very similar to how Putin is constantly crying about how Russia is a victim of NATO aggression, actually.

This is one of the more eloquent definitions I’ve seen of conservatives. It’s exactly how I see them operate.
The fucked up thing is that a lot of the younger ones I’ve seen recently have that knowledge that their destructive worldviews are messed up, but continue with it out of trauma or some kind of sadism.
I’d guess that many of the older ones have doubled down on that so many times, they can’t remember it ever being a decision or up for internal debate. So, they just keep digging their hateful holes in the sand, ready to plunge their heads in any time they hear something that upsets their delicate, irrational, fantasies.
