His stuff is always excellent, but this really stood out an an explanation for something I’ve always been curious about, as well as how technological advances are actually making the problem worse.

    Nice explanation. For future advances, part of it could be solved by photonics, getting rid of most of the interconnects. Massively parallel simple computations could be carried out on a photonic neuromorphic substrate, making NNs use orders of magnitude less power.

      It does seem photonics are unavoidable, as copper only gets you so far, which is not c.
