How did everyone feel about it?
Seeing Mumbo was cool of course!
My wife and I are convinced the way Jack Black said treasure “traysure” was a bdoubleo reference unless there’s someone else bigger who says it like that consistently lol.
Every line of dialogue and reaction was shot with a centered medium close up, with the character facing straight at the camera. If the dialog didn’t start like that they cut to it by the end. It was making me uncomfortable.
Other than that I thought only a couple of the jokes landed and generally I didn’t like it at all. My young son said he liked it, but I’m not sure. Him and other kids in the audience seemed to be getting restless in the first third or so before they went back to the Minecraft world. He didn’t really go on about any of the movie, and while we have made references to it I’ve mostly been the one to initiate. I think he just liked the idea of a Minecraft movie and going to the theater more than the movie itself.
It was better than expected, I don’t regret going. You could replace the game with any video game IP, but the Minecraft parts felt like they were done with love.
