So…I’m trying to make AV1 to be a preferred codec over x265. I made an AV1 custom format to follow the x265 one. And, in Profiles - HD 1080p, I set the score for AV1 to 40, while x265 has 10. And…yet, I see the following message when attempting a manual upgrade:
Episode.S01E01.1080p.WEBRip.DS4K.AV1.mkv -Not a Custom Format upgrade for existing episode file(s). New: [AV1 Preferred] (0) do not improve on Existing: [x265 Preferred] (10)
So…for some reason, AV1 is getting a 0. Why? It should be getting a 40. Where can I see the reason for this??
Use the trash guides, it’s all in there.
Sounds like the custom format isn’t working. A screenshot might help.
Here’s a bunch of screenshots attached! I find interesting that if I use the parsing tool to test on a filename that’s getting a zero score in the error message, on the parsing tool it gets a 39, which should be plenty justified for a file upgrade.

You’ll need to share your custom format json (or screenshot) and your quality profile.
It is about the quality. Pretty sure there is not a quality upgrade and then the format is not applied.
It is contra intuitive for the arr stack. What triggers the format is the quality and then the rest of parameters.
I find it annoying because you can not make a format that you prefer a 1080 HD movie in multilanguage over a 4k in just English…
Are you sure that profile is being applied?
You (sadly) need to group all quality profiles into a single one, and then handly quality through a custom format. Example from my setup:
