I have wares if you have coin.
I’m in awe
But YES!!! the planta app is amazing! It’s definitely not to be listened to 100% of the time when it comes to watering, but it is an absolute plant bible!
That’s good idea. Thank you for the recommendation :)
I have one of those too! Unfortunately, it’s fighting mealybugs right now, so I have it isolated. It doesn’t look too happy right now :( but maybe I’ll use it as an example of identifying pest damage…
I know when I first noticed them, I had a mini panic myself. So I looked into it and every source I came across said “you have pests, you have pests!! Mealybugs! Break out the NEEEEM” and I was like wait no. That doesn’t seem right… lol. It’s amazing how many explanations that similar issues may induce.
It’s funny in some places you’re not far off especially with the big ones lol! But no, a lot of them are in really small pots, and I have a lot of juvenile plants, but once they grow up to adulthood I’m definitely going to need to repurpose another room…
No, they’re all done manually. Irrigation systems are mainly meant for outdoors or “true grow rooms,” I’m just a lady that has a ton of potted plants scattered throughout the house haha.
Haha, I think all house plant enthusiasts would love to share the information :) we all obsess over them so more knowledge is always welcome. Do it!
No worries. It was my own rambling that led us to it :)
That’s funny, out of all the plants I have, I’ve never owned an orchid because (ironically) I’ve been concerned about their care! I know now they’re nothing to be scared of but I had that mindset when I first started collecting and I guess it just stuck lol.
I understand and acknowledge that now, but I’m not quite sure this is the place for that discussion. I appreciate and thank you for providing a source for review however.
Lol, I certainly don’t have the energy (or time) for that!
That’s what people have been saying, yeah. I just hope it doesn’t effect defederation for the instance, though I’m sure it eventually will with some instances. Perhaps they’ll work on a migration feature in the future, once we all get through the rocky road transition. :)
Oh yeah, I’m on .ml, I think they already did 1.8. Jeroba has finally stopped being so buggy for me. Though…I do worry some of the things being said about .ml. I’m just a take it as it comes kinda person.
Thanks for the insight! I was worried since lemmy is still kicking off if overflowing communities would be a bother but then I guess it’s better to Kickstart things too.
Great! I was wondering if it would be better for a houseplants category but I think I’d just be happy to share what facts I accumulated over time lol.
Nepenthes are carnivorous plants, and as all carnivorous plants go, they do need special care. Water them with only rain water or distilled water, never tap. They need a soil mix that has no added fertilizer (so stay away from miracle gro). Some people put their nepenthes in a mix of peat moss or coco coir/perlite. Some put them in pure new Zealand sphagnum moss. Myself, I have a mix that I use consisting of peat moss, sphagnum, and perlite, and they seem pretty happy. Sometimes I mix in pool sand. The important thing to know with nepenthes is that they do like their substrate to be slightly damp but never waterlogged. They also do require quite a lot of light. They are Vining plants so they will do good in hanging baskets as their pitchers will have weight to them and eventually as they grow their vines will get quite long.
I have some of my nepenthes under t5s (the smaller ones that are not big enough to put in hanging baskets yet) and my larger nepenthes in south facing windows. They get watered more often than most of my house plants, sans my other carnivorous plants (looking at you, sundews and pings) and they do like the higher humidity.
It sounds a little intimidating at first but they are a little less finicky than other carnivorous plants, luckily. If you’d like to try them, look up nepenthes ventrata/alata! They are most people’s beginner nepenthes as they are much more affordable and less picky than other hybrids :)
WHamada. So vibrant; it almost looks like puckered lips.
I love nepenthes. I have about 6 different varieties in my own collection. They are all so unique, and it’s very exciting when you can create your own crossbreed :)
One of the most unique plants out there. I’ve been dying to get my hands on a hamata.
Do you have a photo of it? Maybe I can help identify it for you :)
