I grew up in an area that was fairly dark. Probably somewhere between Bortle class 3 and 4 when I was young.

When I went backpacking in the Rockies, it was like nothing I had ever seen before. The night sky is vast and beautiful, and so full of lights and color. Constellations are hard to make out because there are so many dots to look at, rather than the light being too faint to make out.

I had recurring issues with registering Bluetooth devices, where they would pair initially but refuse to connect again after a reboot. I couldn’t remove the device from saved connections, and registry edits wouldn’t save or persist. I’d have to completely uninstall the driver, change the registry, and reinstall the drivers, with restarts between each step, to get it to work for 1-2 days.

Now, having to troubleshoot isn’t what turned me away from Windows to Linux. I knew I would run into that plenty on Linux as well, but I came to hate the registry. If I was going to have to go through all this trouble to get things to work, I might as well do it on a system I had more control over. I had worked with different distros on VMs and dual booting before, so when I built a new system, I just skipped Windows entirely.

The new launch will be right in the middle of Intels proposed fix, so will still be able to cash in on the troubles Intel is facing (especially if it doesn’t work right away), while making sure AMD processors don’t have a similar fatal flaw. Nothing would be worse than swooping in to take over the share of consumers trying to leave Intel, only to run into their own stability issues.

I’m genuinely curious about this. Do you just stick to sites you know? Do you randomly try web addresses when you’re looking for something new?

Talk to your partner about what they consider romantic activities, because everyone has a different idea of what is or is not romantic. It can also depend on other bits of context. For example, going to a fancy dinner with one friend might be seen as romantic by your partner, but a fancy dinner with a sibling or group of friends might not be.

The timing could also be a bigger factor than the activity itself. Your partner might feel offended that you chose to leave the birthday celebration/activities for personal time to relax and unwind, only to then go and do something with a different friend. Even if that activity with the other friend wasn’t seen as a romantic activity, your partner might have still been upset that they were perceived as a lower priority on their birthday, a day they might have expected to be more prioritized by them.

Even further, different people have different degrees of, for lack of a better term here, jealousy towards their partner in regards to activities. I’m not implying your partner is toxic or a jealous sort, but a lunch “date” with a friend is acceptable for some partners, but crosses the line for others.

Point 2 is absolutely subjective, though. Personally, I think a full size or TKL look a lot better than a compact. It’s too distracting seeing something “missing” from a traditional setup. Though, I also like to have my keyboard and mouse a good distance from each other and spread out, rather than close and centered in front of me.

I don’t know of any single site where different game guides are aggregated, at least not the same way they were in the 90s/00s. Most games tend to use their own Wiki/Fandom sites for that sort of thing now.

Gamefaqs might be worth checking out, as well.

You’ll probably end up needing to print several different pages and aggregate them together to get a single, offline guide for a game, but certainly possible with prep time.

It wouldn’t be the most ideal, but you can dual-boot with an external drive. There are external SSDs that are meant for running programs/games off of them, and would look into those for best performance.

Alternatively, if you have plenty of unused storage on the laptop you can partition some of that for use, but a second drive is usually preferred.

Get a cheap 1-2 tb drive and start dual-booting with whatever system you’re running now. This way you can play around with different distros while retaining your current settup to fall back on!

In theory you should be able to do that! I think Proton has some issues with NTFS, mostly when installing or updating, but with a little research and tweaking you should be able to get it to run smoothly. I opted to keep them fully separate and just installed certain games twice, but am also using this as a test run before diving into full daily driver Linux when I build a new system in the spring, so longevity of my storage drives wasn’t a concern.

Looks like there are a few issues with BG3, but will probably be smoothed with time.

Definitely worth keeping access to a Windows machine if able, but doesn’t seem like it’s impossible without.

I just did this with my desktop pc when I added a second drive for additional storage. Instead of using it as additional storage for windows like I initially intended, I decided to dual boot with Mint on the second drive.

So far, I haven’t had any issue with gaming on Mint, either! Granted, most of the games I play are through Steam and either work with Proton or are native Linux to begin with. I did install a few games with Lutris, though, and works fine so far. Sea of Thieves, Astroneer, Slay the Spire, Deep Rock Galactic, are all working out of the box.

Only thing I haven’t attempted yet are multiplayer games with active anti-cheat, like LoL or CS:2. If those are the sorts of games you regularly play, you’ll probably be better off in the Windows partition/drive, but have fun experimenting in Linux!

The ads are just out of control. Back when it was one, maybe two, ads that were 10-20s long combined, I was willing to sit through it. Now there are almost always multiple ads concurrent, ads in the middle of the video, ads at the end of the video if it plays all thr way through, then ads again before the next video plays.

Bring it back to a single ad at the beginning of the video and give me a variety of ads so it isn’t the same 3 over and over, and I’ll sit and watch it.
