  • I can’t speak for most of your post. I’ll say that an app that might allow you to find out if you’re being paid your fair wage sounds great, I couldn’t begin to know how to execute on that idea.

But what I will say is this:

I’m not sure if working with a union is worth it, especially in a country, where employers have reportedly hired goons to silence employees, not just blue-collar, but also IT sweat-shop employees.

The past has taught us that labor victories are achieved despite significant opposition. The history of the Pinkertons, the history of the Haymarket affair in Chicago, the history of the Ludlow Massacre and the greater Coalfields War in Colorado and more. These stories are filled with people fighting against a system that will, when it feels it’s necessary, resort to incredibly oppressive methods of enforcement. You can probably find similar stories in India’s history. This is a history that shows how powerful labor is because if it weren’t, we wouldn’t need groups like the Pinkertons. Is it personally worth it? It’s up to you to decide, but the challenges we face today can help us build a better future.

  • Mr. Parenti, are you a Marxist?

Parenti: This is my answer. I would wear that label proudly if I knew that you understood what I meant by Marxist. And when someone says: ‘You’re a Marxist now aren’t you?’ and their only intention is to give a buzzword which says ‘this guy drinks the blood of capitalist children’ or something, then I’m going to say no, I’m not your label, I don’t particularly want your label.

[…] Look, I wrote the book about the media. I don’t know what Karl Marx has to say about 20th-century US media, I think he had very little to say because you know… he left early. But there’s been a lot of creative thought and scholarship in Marxist literature and I feel that it’s a scholasticist thing [to say]: ‘Oh, you took your [Marxist] formula and applied it here…’

See, I don’t see these things this way because I’m a Marxist. it’s just the opposite. I started seeing these things and I started realizing that there was an analysis that had explanatory power for that. It gets very frustrating you know. For years I’d knock myself out trying to make an analysis, I’d come to the conclusion and I’d say: ‘Hey you know, the police are not neutral, they’re on the side of property and power.’ Then someone would say to me: ‘That’s Marxism, you know, you’re sounding like a Marxist.’

That’s Marxism… oh. Then I’d say: 'Wealth is largely unaccountable in many of the things it does in our democracy, I don’t understand, that isn’t what I learned … ’ / ‘Oh that’s a Marxist point of view, Marx said that you know.’ and it would go on, one thing after another and I said:

‘Boy, this Karl Marx was really something, you know, every time I put two and two together and come up with an analysis they give him the credit for it.’

  • well, there it is

Now we understand what the “National Security Threat” was all this time, not that it wasn’t painfully obvious from the jump. Every other major social media platform is in bed with the Feds, giving them access to whatever they wish at a moment’s notice. The “threat” to the nation isn’t foreign influence it’s domestic influence. If they can’t have backend access to the system to monitor these domestic threats, then the whole system is a threat. If you are using TikTok as a means of ORGANIZING then you are a THREAT to the NATIONAL SECURITY because the Feds can’t WATCH YOU LIKE A HAWK.

At one point, TikTok reportedly altered language that would have allowed government officials to demand changes to the apps recommendations algorithm if it promoted content the agencies disagreed with.

But but but… MUH FREEZ PEACH!

  • You know how people keep talking about the Nazi Bar? Now say, you’ve been keeping your bar Nazi free for a while, and then, a massive venue opens up across the street that is way more inclined to cater to Nazis because they’re huge and don’t dedicate the resources in dealing with them. They reach out to all the bars in the area to and want to partner up by offering venue attendees one free drink at your bar. You can take that offer, and your volume of bar patrons goes way up even on slow days, but it will ruin the vibe for your regulars and you’ll have to accept that it’ll be a lot harder to keep Nazis out of your bar.
