521·5 days agoIt’s a bit surprising how many CEO’s express disdain for their users and employees.
When employees are reduced to an “input resource” number on a spreadsheet, and they sit insulated from user complaints, and likely surround themselves with sycophants, I suppose it’s inevitable.

The only thing that constrains power is enforced laws with teeth.

Technology@lemmy.world•Valve admits Steam has an AI slop and cloning problem, but says 'we don't want to be gatekeepers telling developers which tools they should or shouldn't use'English
1·10 days agoThis is what they need to do. Give people the choice.
If it’s not technically doable, then we’ll do it ourselves, we’ll fight over which game is and isn’t full of slop. And, we’ll be wrong sometimes, but increasingly right. Because, soon ALL media will be full of slop, including games.
The only way to avoid it will be to play old games. Which is fine by me, but there’s always the next generation of gamers coming up who won’t be so picky.

Technology@lemmy.world•ChatGPT Is Building Detailed Psychological Profiles of Its Users: system is acting as your advisor, your friend, your doctor, your lawyer, and so it has information on everything.English
15·13 days agoFor now, I can avoid AI because it’s easy to spot. Even product website AI chatbots are poor imitations of people. (Honestly, the mental acrobatics people must go through to talk to one of these things as a trusted advisor baffles me. It’s a fucking machine, you’re talking to a box, a piece of software. Stop anthropomorphizing the damn things. But, maybe that’s just me.)
In the near future I expect for anything important to me (namely, doctors, lawyers, friends, advisors), I’ll only trust face to face conversations--but then, no more so than I ever have. Because, they won’t perfect androids in my lifetime.
The threat is that for paid positions, like doctors, etc., the option for face to face may become too expensive for anyone but the rich. Because, you know the rich won’t take digital advice. Hell, they’re trying to replace teachers in public schools with machines, right now. The rich never let their kids have phones when they’re young. Or, at least not the parents who give a fuck about their kids, which seems not many filthy rich do. Let alone will they let some machine teach them in school.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI Billionaires Are Flooding Money Into Politics to Influence Elections, But It’s Backfiring: Even a whiff of AI money seems to disgust voters.English
352·14 days agoI can only hope this is true. Most voters aren’t paying a bit of attention to where the money comes from.
They’re using AI. They think it’s wonderful, they’ve barely heard about the controversy around data centers, and think “data centers are where the internet it, yOU lIkE thE inTErNeT, Don’T yoU?”

During the pandemic I stopped eating out. I started making all of my own meals, and to make it easier to remember what to get at the store, I narrowed down to the same meals every day. It’s been over four years now, and I’m fine with it.
No processed foods. Fresh or frozen vegetables and some fruit, organic chicken and milk, cheese, and nuts. That’s about it. I spend 30 minutes per day total making meals. Once-a-week shopping is completed in 20 minutes, because I know exactly what I’m getting, and where everything is in the store.
I don’t get bored with the meals, because boredom is all in the mind and I decided that food is not entertainment. That’s all it took.

Doubt.
