I have a feeling the big impact is going to be in other services, namely AWS. Makes me wonder if some new global outages are coming, which are always fun to deal with.

Deskflow (synergy upstream) seems to be working well at the moment. Bear in mind they just moved all the repos, but Synergy v2 had a bunch of issues, it was dropped for v3, which is just deskflow packaged up all pretty. Input leap is from the people who were maintaining barrier and forked it a few years ago. Lan-mouse is its own thing, and it works, though its a bit clunky to use.

Right now I’m doing some testing to figure out what I want to use, my concern around barrier is that no updates makes for a security risk, and (for me) it also won’t work with Wayland.

With Synergy going back to the open base, I don’t really mind throwing them some cash, but its not available yet with Wayland support as a packaged project, so I built it and will be testing more for all of them once I move some things around on my desk to restructure - the whole reason I was looking for something in the first place actually. That won’t happen until a free weekend though, so hopefully this weekend, but maybe the following.

I have one right now that looks at data and says “Hey, this is weird, here are related things that are different when this weird thing happened. Seems like that may be the cause.”

Which is pretty well within what they are good at, especially if you are doing the training yourself.

A dumb phone and a feature phone are not the same thing, and a feature phone may connect to the internet.

Which is why dumb phones and feature phones aren’t common anymore, and the people choosing them are specifically choosing it to avoid being available via WhatsApp/Signal/Slack/Discord/Teams/whatever else.

My FIL for example has a clamshell feature phone, because he doesn’t want to be reached except by phone or SMS. He doesn’t want to read email or get messages on his phone, he wants to restrict that to when he’s in front of his computer.

So yes, you would not be able to use messaging clients on a dumb phone, that’s the idea behind their use today.

While I get your opinion, these things have definitions. Here’s a super simple version:

• A dumb phone does not connect to the internet. Its a phone. Just a dumb device.
• A feature phone is what you’re referring to here, where it may connect to the internet, but isn’t part of some larger ecosystem and is certainly not an app-first approach. Its a phone first, ancillary features are a bonus.
• Smartphones are your android and iOS devices, which connect to the internet, is part of a large ecosystem of applications, is an internet first oriented device, etc.

So yes, this is a feature phone from what I’ve read of the translation.

The bigger issue to me are games that were removed from steam and I can no longer get.

I’m all for gun control. As in, significant reforms, nationwide reforms. Real background checks. Limits on the types of guns. Insurance requirements. Safety training requirements. The list can keep on going…

That said, I’d still want an emergency alert system in schools. There are other threats and other situations where it could be needed, there is nothing wrong with having both.
