Did my app glitch or something? I installed day one, then a few hours later an update dropped with the option to pay $13 for lifetime ad-free and I immediately paid that. Now everyone’s complaining it’s $20?

electriccars@lemmy.worldto Sync for Lemmy@lemmy.world•Sync for Lemmy pre-registration is now openEnglish3·2 years agoPre registered! Will this also have the option for the old style of comments? I’ve been using sync for so long that I prefer the old sync comments style to the new one lol.

electriccars@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•It's official: Smartphones will need to have replaceable batteries by 2027English2·2 years agoI really miss hot swappable batteries. Just carry a small spare battery and swap it when needed. So much now convenient than needing to plug it in to top up.
electriccars@lemmy.worldto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•New handheld game consoles will need replaceable batteries from 2027, EU saysEnglish21·2 years agoIMO the law is intended to reduce consumer electronic waste, making batteries that anyone from kids to grandparents can easily replace themselves. Currently the steam deck battery isn’t all that difficult to replace for the tech savvy “brave” folks who happily open up their devices and see the internals, but for most people that’s not good enough. I would never expect my 68 year old mother to replace it herself. IMO the aim is to make batteries replaceable like the PS5 SSD expansion capacity is. Just need a screwdriver and a few minutes, without every feeling like you might break something. Needing anything more than that and most people won’t do it out of fear they’ll break their device.
But only time will tell what actually happens.

ifixit: “Battery replacements definitely seem to be the steam deck’s achilles heel”
Easy to open yes, but still very challenging to replace the battery. Doesn’t seem to comply to the new rules to me.

electriccars@lemmy.worldto Android@lemdro.id•It's official: Smartphones will need to have replaceable batteries by 20271·2 years agoGive me a phone with a removable battery in the style of the HTC Sensation 4G. Sexy, metal, easy to open and swap the battery. It was an incredible device that I remember using fondly.
electriccars@lemmy.worldto Android (locked, see pinned thread)@lemmy.world•Sync for Reddit is deadEnglish2·2 years agoI think you misunderstood, I used the revanced manager to patch Sync so I could continue to use it, not the official app to just remove ads (which would still be an improvement).
electriccars@lemmy.worldto Android (locked, see pinned thread)@lemmy.world•Sync for Reddit is deadEnglish5·2 years agoI just used the revanced hack to make it still work by making Reddit think it’s my own developed app. Able to use it right now!
But I REALLY like Lemmy, so even if I occasionally use Reddit after that dumpster fire, my usage will be split in half by Lemmy.
electriccars@lemmy.worldto Android (locked, see pinned thread)@lemmy.world•EU votes to mandate removable batteries in smartphones in a landslide; no more glued together junk!5·2 years agoCouldn’t disagree more. Wireless charging with magnetic attachment like magsafe is a godsend for using my phone as a GPS. Just slap it onto it’s magnetic wireless charger and go. Pull it off when done. A million times better than the old chargers that grip the phone and then also having to plug it in every time I need to drive somewhere, then undo it all when I get there.
Guess I lucked out. Though I did pay $30 for ultra lifetime, right before Reddit killed the app, in order to support the dev. So it balances out I suppose.
