Hi there!

Sounds like it’s time to bring the U.S some Freedom! 😎🪖🕊️

If only my TV had a Jellyfin app, I could switch, but alas it doesn’t. Got to use Plex if I want to watch stuff from any home streaming thingy. That said, it’s free to do that, at least.
I just don’t have the money or time to buy an external box and fiddle with it to get it running these days either, otherwise I’d build a modern version of the XBMC server I used to have in days gone by :-(

Your comment’s got some unreadable corrupted text there.

especially if it’s using sim/esim card. Those mobile carriers can literally do whatever the fuck they want to your phone and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Wow that’s wild, how does my SIM card allow my carrier to do whatever they want to my phone?
On the face of it, that sounds like a gigantic breach of privacy. Can they look at my photos, capture my screen, read my stored app data, intercept outbound Internet traffic before it’s encrypted, etc? That’s wild.
Not to mention that I bought my phone separately, so it’s got nothing to do with them. As one might imagine, I only added a SIM in order to receive traditional telephone calls, it’s not otherwise useful to me.
“They just leave it at the door”.
Fucking EXACTLY. They’ve started copying bloody American delivery idiots and started dumping parcels outside the house in plain view of the street (what’s to stop someone from stealing it, or the rain from destroying it?!).
Absolutely infuriating! Imagine a parcel travelling hundreds, sometimes thousands of miles through a complex logistics network to get all the way to my door…
… And then instead of delivering it (it must be put through the letterbox or handed to a resident, as has always been the case for any delivery here), they just say “fuck it I’ll just dump it”, and they fuck off. Often they don’t even bother knocking or waiting 30 seconds for someone to come to the door at all, even for the elderly.
Naturally they don’t even close the garden gate behind them either. Utter disrespect for everyone and everything.
Oh, and that’s all IF they even get the right house! Nevermind that the address is clearly printed on the package, and clearly shown on the house. They like to not only deliver to the wrong house, but THROW the parcel into a complete stranger’s BACK GARDEN over a tall fence, and then have the nerve to take a photo of it as “proof of delivery”! The cheek!
Absolute cunts this new generation of delivery people, no basic respect, not doing the job properly at all, half the time the parcel never even arrives (and yet they’ll say they attempted delivery - no you didn’t, I was watching the garden the whole morning).
I fucking hate them with a passion.
Any new delivery company that is founded with the motto “we deliver parcels like it’s 2005” is going to be hugely successful, because we’re all sick of the current useless American-style lot we have now. Even Royal Mail’s gone to shit the same way these days, and they were the last bastion of proper delivery people.

Enjoy your free speech while you still have it because this is a clear attempt to erase that right.
Given that we’re on a global community, how will this erase my right to free speech here in Europe?
Or were you, like so many, just assuming everybody online lives in your country, so why bother mentioning what country you’re talking about in your title or description?

“turning revolutionary”
Please, in the West we’ve had huge societal crisis after crisis, crumbling rights, services, and stability, etc, and nothing has turned revolutionary.
You think people who are willing (if you look at supposedly developed, modern places like the USA for example) to put up with a clearly predatory evil healthcare & police system, fascist government, almost no basic workers rights, disappearing people from the streets into concentration camps, etc etc, are going to ‘turn revolutionary’ over ANYTHING?
We’ve had every opportunity, every chance to stand up and fight for what’s right for us and others, and the best we can do are a few days of mild protests with some cardboard signs (which, given how far we’ve allowed our rights to be eroded are just as likely to land us in jail, or labeled as extremists).
Turning revolutionary my arse.

Why would the electricity company making extra profits affect how beneficial the DCs are to a region?
Sure, it’d pay for a few more CEO yachts, but that’s about it.

The funny thing is, THIS seems to be the part the media is rolling with, but if you read the full details about what it can do and how poorly it’s made, tracking your location is only one thing to worry about (though it’s a big one to be fair).
E.g The potential for running arbitrary malicious code if one random dude on the internet (who is unrelated to the US government) has his GitHub account compromised? Daaaaaaawg

What I hate most about the Independent these days is that they’re a UK news agency for UK news reporting, but seem to want to heavily report on local USA news now.
Not just big international news worthy stuff, but lots of small local area USA news.
I’ll see some headline that sounds serious, only to open it and find it’s not referring to events in the UK at all, but in the USA, which is entirely irrelevant to me.
Not sure why they pivoted to being a US news company, but I’m sick of it, so they’re on my blacklist now.

Hey now, they care so much about protecting children that they’ll cover them in body armour and send them in big groups to far away lands (to keep them safe from domestic terrorism ofc)!
The fanbase? They didn’t take this kindly and have now been making it a campaign to make that user’s life a living hell.
I only browse the community stuff rather than engaging with it, but we’ve had very different experiences.
What I’ve seen is everybody discussing how messed up you’d have to be to do something like that, after a minority of players did all that horrible stuff, the fanbase overwhelmingly calling for those responsible to face punishment in court and to be permanently banned from the game and community.
As can be expected of any community, there’s always unhinged, bad people in the mix. There are bad people on Lemmy, there are bad people everywhere. That’s just life. As a society, we deal with them when they show themselves, and we take care of each other.
You can tar the whole community with one brush if you’d like, but that’s not a path towards anything positive. It only leads to people like me being offended and angry when you claim I’ve (as part of the fanbase) been on a campaign to make someone’s life hell.
It’s just not productive.

If it has a MicroSD slot, 3.5mm jack, a removable battery and costs no more than £300, I’m interested! <3
I’d rather it were made in Europe too, but I understand we can’t have everything, supply chains being what they are.
P.S Bonus points if it has an IR blaster, I use the one on my current phone quite a lot, surprisingly enough!

Gambling. Call it gambling.
Trying to whitewash it as “Prediction Markets” so it doesn’t sound scummy, addictive, damaging and horrible is really annoying.
There is a market for predicting outcomes of things and waging money against those predictions, yes. We call it Gambling.

Motorola has been kinda crap for years now, not supporting their android phones with updates, etc.
Hopefully this is a new leaf for them.
Isn’t Lenovo that dodgy company that did the China stuff though? Hopefully they’ve been bought by someone else since then.

Is anybody acting like this is new? Shops relabel stuff with price changes regularly, this just makes it quicker and easier - staff don’t have to run around for a hour with a price gun and a bunch of shelf labels any more.
Improving how we display prices isn’t the issue, that’s a good move, it’s how prices are decided that are the problem.

Every penny given to a US company is bankrolling their government through taxes, and thus funding authoritarianism.
OpenAI has direct government contracts sure, but yeah.
I agree it sucks.
Yes, we should all avoid discussion with humans at all costs, and of course already know everything anyway.
Imagine not knowing something and asking a human for more information? Ew
