  • The hardware of Sony phones has been so attractive over the years. I had the Z3 & XZ1 years ago and they were great.

However, the software is lacking. They don’t commit to long term OS/security updates.

The price is also far too high for just a slab.

This means that there are no ROMs that support recent flagship Sony devices.

Honestly they don’t have to lower the price. If they just opened up the software I would make the jump.

I’m holding onto the OnePlus 7 Pro for dear life because newer devices feel like such a compromise; great hardware and software is locked down to hinder ROM development or great ROM support and weak hardware.

  • If you’re only problem with your current phone is the battery, maybe look into replacing the battery.

Either DIY or bring it to a reputable repair shop.

I just replaced the battery of my OnePlus 7 Pro (and a backup OnePlus 7 Pro also) myself. Was a lot easier than I thought and now the battery life is great again.

The SD865 in it is more than capable to tackle anything I do (no heavy gaming or other resource heavy tasks) so instead of spending $800+ on a new phone I spent $25 on a battery.

I’m also running a custom ROM (crDroid) so I don’t have FOMO on the latest software.

  • Honestly I love their hardware design. I think it’s the best out.

But I love custom ROMs more.

If they simply opened up their devices I wouldn’t care about how many official OS updates they offer, because I would be using a ROM that would keep constantly updating.

Although currently there’s very little interest in ROM development for Sony phones. Kinda like the chicken or the egg.

Really just want flagship hardware with custom ROMs.

My OnePlus 7 Pro is still going strong, for now.

  • I’m positive this is AI generated. I can’t believe 9 to 5 Google fell for this.

The ‘bump’ has a shadow in the two straight-on photos, but the side view shows no height.

The hands holding the phone give it away, too. The fingertips look softened from a filter and don’t have any sign of fingerprint ridges while the palm is much more detailed.

They also look too sharp in contrast to the background.

EDIT: The more I look the more I’m convinced. The side photo and the angled photo are completely different in size relative to the hand. The thickness of the palm is much too large, as well.
