I’ve been mulling over which large expenses to cover while still working that would reduce spending in retirement. For example, I’ve been looking into getting solar to cover electric costs over the long-term. This would also require us to get a new roof, as ours is nearing EOL and it wouldn’t make sense to install solar only to take it down in a couple of years.
I could also splurge and get an EV, which if powered by the solar setup, would be free to run. Though increased registration fees may offset the gas savings, so this one might be a wash financially.
Any other suggestions to consider dropping money on in the 3-5 years before retirement?
Because I have little faith in the US government ever allowing Chinese EVs into the country. They are so superior to US automakers options, the lobby against them is/would be insane.
