I got pulled over the other day. The reason given was a lane change violation (which was bullshit pretense, it was right outside a very rural, but very busy, bar so this was likely actually entrapment, tho I was for sure under the legal limit - I was there to check out line dancing because I’ve never seen it before, and only had one beer in the hour I was there).

I also had a very expired registration (haven’t driven much, and didn’t realize I forgot to renew it).

But I got let off everything with a warning…? I spent days trying to figure it out because it should have been a ticket… he didn’t even seem interested in waiting for me to dig out my insurance info (which I had, just had to get it out of my wallet).

But I have a dash cam… and it records sound. It would have proven I didn’t violate anything, and he was recorded saying why I was pulled over so no way to flub it and say it was actually the registration all along, and thus the pretense for pulling me over in the first place was void. I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason I got off with a list of warnings rather than tickets.

My stairs were sanded down years ago, never got around to re-coating them (tho that’s partially because 3 corner treads need to be replaced and I just don’t want to do it)

My windows were replaced a decade back and still don’t have interior trim.

I put in hardwood floor, but never put new baseboards in.

I installed a furnace and new ductwork, but never fixed the run to the front room (it was ripped out a long time ago, and needs a new flex line, but I’ll have to take out part of the living room ceiling to install it I think…)

The list just keeps going and going… someday I’ll finish at least a few of these things!

For my cats I started saying “light!” Before I turn on the lights.

I got my partner to start doing it to.

It is now just a polite thing to so, for all living things, to say “light!” Before turning it on to give time to prepare (I’m very photophobic, and sudden bright light is very painful for me)

(I do similar when I’m going to make a lot of noise; “I’m gunna make some noise - here it comes!” But that’s mostly for the cats)

I pretty much only watch animated (prosopagnosia makes live action considerably more difficult to follow) and am always on the hunt for good new (to me) stuff.

Pretty sure that’s true. But I didn’t know yottabyte was a thing (fr) so I could be wrong I guess.

I’m familiar with TB (tuberculoses and terabytes) but what is YB? Yeet-a-byte, since they want you to purge shit? I thought the next step up was petabyte?

I really hope what they mean is clean water.

It can happen; there’s a paper mill by me that was actually an important part of the river cleanup process when the river was far worse than it is today. It takes water from the river, uses it for their needs, then treats it and returns it to the river far far cleaner than they took it out, which has been a net benefit for the entire downstream river ecosystem. That plan, and their follow-through, is the only reason that mill exists at all.

Thing is, where are they going to find this not-particularly-clean water to treat and return? Are they going to need all new infrastructure built to accommodate this?

And why is that cheaper/easier/whatever than just making a closed loop cooling system, which they could have done from the being…
