  • I haven’t played rise of nations but from your description, you might like the core paradox games (crusader kings -> europa universallis-> victoria -> hearts of iron) despite their shitty dlc model. Currently, eu4 is on sale with all its dlc for ~£40, dlc isn’t very necessary for the other games. They are more grand strategy than 4x. You can use mods to convert saves and carry your campaign through the games. All together, they can cover all of human history (European, North African and West Asian medieval history and then the rest of the world from 1444 onwards). If what you like about rts is the unit micromanagement, you might want to go with victoria 2 rather than victoria 3, you will need victoria 2 dlc and it is a lot older.

If you want a 4x rts, stellaris is very good, but it isn’t based on human history.

  • I think this is what makes the game seem less shit to me. I didn’t back the game because I wanted Chris Roberts’ fever dream to become a reality, I backed the game because I wanted to play the alpha. I know this thought process won’t help original backers since they basically just pre orded the finished product and didn’t want this buggy mess, but knowing I was paying for a buggy alpha before even getting the game seems to have made it a lot more enjoyable for me.

I have also been very lucky with the bugs this patch. The only severe bug I’ve encountered is the new hauling missions not working. I know that Orison hangars are bugged as well, because I was ferrying people up to sepharim in my aurora lol.

  • I think the reason they chose to do it this way (and I think this is the reason for most seemingly time wasting decisions) is because the current mobiglass was made with an old, easy to use but slow and difficult to expand, system they just used to get to a “playable” alpha and now they are updating to the new systems they always wanted to use.

I do think they should make the text more readable though, the only reasons I try to avoid microtech is because of the unreadable ui against the backdrop of a snowy planet or moon (in ships and on the mobiglass).
